Process Paper
Why we chose this topic:
When our group heard about this project, we searched the internet is hopes of finding the best topic. Our group wanted topic that we could all relate to. One afternoon we came across the perfect topic, Title IX. Every member of our group is a competitive female athlete. We all feel a special connection with Title IX and believe the impact it is making on women’s rights is . The deeper we looked into our topic we found out the major impact that Title IX had on female athletes in the 1970s and in our world today.
How we conducted our research:
As a group, we began to accumulate research by watching videos and documentaries, emailing primary sources, and gathering
information from websites and books. From our research we found what our project is, the faces, and the 37 words that make up Title IX. From the videos and documentaries, we recorded key phrases from the people impacted by Title IX. While researching we wanted to find a variety of athletes, institutions, and programs to focus on. Our goal was to support how sex discrimination took place not only in sports but education, jobs, and in many more institutions. We made a detailed outline of the information we gathered from the books and websites. Furthermore, we emailed directors and coaches from various colleges that had a background on Title IX.
How we selected the presentation category and how we created our project:
We chose to make a website to present our information on Title IX. We chose a website because it best fits our topic so that we may properly get our information across. When creating our website, we created tabs which related to the important topics referred to on our outline. Our tabs include The History of Title IX, General Information about Title Ix, “MVPS" of Title IX, Faces of Title IX, Court Cases, and the impact today. Also included are pictures with captions and videos taken during the time of Title IX. As a result, we put all of the material together to make a ready to be published
website.
How our topic relates to the theme:
When our group first found out the topic of NHD, Rights and Responsibilities, the first thing we thought about was women's rights. We began to research topics that fit this category and came across Title IX. Title IX is the right of equality between men and women. Equality in college sports and
academics wouldn't be possible without Title IX.
